3 Reasons Why You Need a Newsletter as a Blogger

Must-Have: Blog-Newsletter

Our inboxes get spammed by tons of emails on a daily basis. Unwanted advertising and spam destroy the reputation of newsletters, which makes them an unloved part of our inboxes. Most of the time, newsletters get deleted immediately without being opened in the first place. But despite their bad reputation, a blog newsletter can be an excellent tool for your blog. In this article, we show you three reasons why you need a newsletter as a blogger and which tools you can use.

Why a newsletter is essential for bloggers

  • Reader engagement

The most essential thing for you as a blogger is the connection to your readers. Sending out regular newsletters can help you to strengthen your reader engagement. With personalised emails and individual content, you can approach specifically targeted groups of your audience and provide them with information about your blog.

  • Reach

Social media channels, such as Facebook and Instagram, are the perfect way to get in contact with your audience. But frustration happens quickly when only a small amount of your readers can actually see your postings in their newsfeed. That does not happen with newsletters – every newsletter you are sending out to your readers will arrive in their inboxes. No algorithm determines about who is going to see your newsletter or not. Every recipient is deciding on their own if they want to open your newsletter. It doesn’t matter if your emails are opened or directly deleted – they are definitely seen in your readers inboxes.

  • Traffic

The content of newsletters can be diverse. You can not only share new information with your readers, but also can promote old articles and highlights from your blog. This can help you to increase the traffic on your blog, since the reader can get to your blog directly via your newsletter.

Free tools for your blog newsletter

There is a wide range of different newsletter tools and they all vary in terms of functions and cost. Before you decide on one provider, you should take into consideration what kind of requirements you have for your newsletter tool. There are several things to keep in mind: functions, cost, analytics, emailing and legality.

There are certain newsletter tools that are very popular amongst bloggers because they are easy to use and have reasonable prices. Most providers also offer free versions, which are limited in their functions.
For bloggers, the most popular newsletter provider is MailChimp. The free version of MailChimp allows you to send up to 12,000 emails per month to a number of 2,000 subscribers. For a variety of other newsletter providers you can check Zapier.

As you can see, a blog newsletter can be more than just an unloved email in your readers inboxes. With a strategic plan and added value for your subscribers, you can not only intensify your readers engagement but also increase your blog’s traffic. Next week we are going to show you how to create a successful newsletter for your readers!
